Postpartum Preparation

Postpartum should be prepared for in the same way we prepare for labor and delivery. I work with postpartum women, parents and support persons to decrease the burden during the transition from being pregnant to the postpartum period. There are different levels of support services available to meet everyone’s needs. This could include freshly delivered individualized meals, individualized freezer meal planning and preparation in vacuumed sealed bags or development of recipes and meal plans that you prepare yourself. These meals focus on optimizing nutrient intake, while meeting caloric needs during this phase of life. When you welcome your new family member, you will have everything on standby so you can focus on your recovery.

Blood and Special Testing

Even under the best circumstances, it is not uncommon for postpartum women to experience nutrient depletion. Pregnancy, childbirth and recovery can impact baseline nutrient levels, which can lead to an array of symptoms including fatigue, hair shedding, mood changes and difficulty sleeping. It is typically not standard practice to perform nutrient testing postpartum, with many women only receive screening tests that have little utility. There are nutrient markers that should be assessed on every postpartum patient, with additional special testing being completed for complex cases. This could include testing of hair, saliva, urine, or stool based on what is indicated.

Other Conditions

While we can treat an array of conditions, our practice is focused on postpartum women.
